How it works
Enter the file size and your connection speed, and the estimated download time updates live. The calculator converts both values to bits, divides file size by speed, and formats the result as hours, minutes, and seconds. It assumes a steady, uninterrupted connection at the full speed you enter. Everything runs locally in your browser — no data leaves your device.
Download Time Calculator
Estimate how long a download will take at a given connection speed.
FAQ
Why does my download take longer than this calculator predicts?
This calculator assumes you get the full connection speed for the entire download. In practice, Wi-Fi overhead, other devices sharing the connection, server-side limits, and network congestion usually mean real downloads take somewhat longer than the theoretical minimum.
Why is my speed in Mbps but my file size in MB?
Internet connection speeds are marketed in megabits per second (Mbps), while file sizes are measured in megabytes (MB). Since 1 byte = 8 bits, this calculator converts both to a common unit before working out the time.
Does this account for upload speed too?
The math is identical for uploads — just enter your connection's upload speed instead of its download speed to estimate how long it will take to send a file.
